March is already here and it’s been about a year since we first heard about the current Covid-19 pandemic. Hopefully, we’re beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Many of our traditional Spring events have been moved to the fall. The famous Summerville Flowertown Festival has been moved to Oct 8-11. The Volvo Women’s Tennis Tournament will be held in early April, but with no fans. The Cooper River Bridge Run has moved to Sept 25. The 74th Annual Festival of Homes and Gardens will be moved mostly to April and May. The Charleston Food + Wine Festival has been canceled. The Holy City Farmer’s Market is every Wednesday 4-7 pm at Holy City Brewing. The Stingrays will be playing hockey at the North Charleston Coliseum on March 3,5,6,19,20,21. The following events are scheduled for March, but lately, we always recommend checking before you go.

The Charleston Real Estate market is still surging forward after a recording setting 2020. Jan of 2021 was up 22.3% over Jan 2020 in terms of transactions. It’s hard to imagine how many homes we could sell if we had more inventory. For the 5 years prior to 2020, we generally always had about 5000 active listings to choose from on any given day. That steadily decreased throughout 2020 due to the highest demand we have ever seen. We currently only have about 1650 active listings to choose from as of March 1, 2021. This of course has caused a feeding frenzy. We now have several areas of Charleston where the median sales price is well over $200/sqft. And now word is that JetBlue will be bringing New Yorkers into Charleston every day beginning on July 1.
